Training and Development
Graduate engineers receive a highly demanding, concentrated training scheme that allows the engineer to utilise their new skills immediately within the workplace, allowing the engineers' value to the company to be recognised in a short period of time. At present this service has been specifically designed for the training and development of graduate process engineers but there is no reason why a client wishing to train other discipline engineers could not utilise some of the topics on offer. There are 6 levels within the training & development programme, ideally the candidate would commence at level 1 and progress up to level 6.
Levels 1 - 2: Basic Understanding, up to 24 topics.
Levels 3 - 5: Series of Unit Operations, Design & Detailed Specification for each Unit Operation Selected (includes rules of thumb, calculation methods, control & instrumentation, designing to current standards).
Level 6: Integration of Unit Operations.
There are 24 topics to choose from in Levels 1 & 2. Of the 24 section topics detailed, only 12 sections can be selected for completion in each level. Some sections are specific for a particular industry and are annotated accordingly.
Each concentrated training session is 5 hours so it will take 10 hours (2 sessions) to complete a topic that has been split into two parts. Guidance is given on the natural flow of topics.

Levels 3, 4, 5 and 6 are developed based upon the applicable industry. The topics covered are tailor made to suit the clients requirements and match the candidate's knowledge level. We have a large data base of unit operations and through discussion can establish/develop the best training schedule that will meet the client's current business needs and the engineers' knowledge level. For example: a unit operation could be a three phase separator (gas/liquid/solid), if this unit operation was selected, then the candidate will learn how to design a three phase separator from first principles. There will be training on how to perform a quick calculation method required for quotation purposes, concept designs or for an initial assessment, there will be training on how to perform the detailed design calculation method with design parameters/limitations and case studies. This would also include nozzle sizing, internals and control & instrumentation. Various suppliers of the said equipment would be reviewed and the advantages and disadvantages assessed.
The unit operations in these levels all include extensive practical sessions and the design of any unit operation will start from learning or refreshing first principles but some of the unit operations are more difficult than others and will sometimes require skills learnt from other unit operations before they can commence, we will of course advise when this is the case.

There are examinations at the end of each level. These are multiple choice for Levels 1 & 2 but focus on calculations and specification of unit operations in all other levels. All examinations are conducted online.
As mentioned earlier, five hours per week are recommended for absorption of training materials, part of which can be dedicated to any materials that they are working on that are related to the training session topic. For each training session a dedicated trainer is in attendance. As the candidate progress up through the other levels of the training & development programme some topics require the presence of industry experts but their attendance is additional to the trainer.
There are thirteen sessions per level, this could be reduced to twelve if items 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 from the list below are conducted on the same day as the first training session. All our materials are web based so can be compiled immediately upon selection. The multiple choice level 1 & 2 and other examinations are also web based so there is no requirement for a trainer's attendance. The results are available immediately.
The standard rate for each 5 hour training session is £300.00 per candidate but this rate applies when the candidate is attending a training centre. There are discounts applied for using a client's facility provided there are multiple candidates. N.B. There are costs applied for travelling time and expenses. The full details of these discounts can be established once the number of candidates, number of topics or unit operations, level and location have been discussed and a quotation prepared.
